Rome, Italy
Rome, the capital of Italy, is a sprawling city of nearly 500 square miles. Built on marshy lowlands along the banks of the River Tiber, Rome is close to the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea, where it enjoys a Mediterranean climate. North and east of Rome are the Apennine Mountains, home to the Grand Italian Trail which traverses the entire range. The Alban Hills, an old volcanic complex, sits just to the southeast of the city, and if you travel north and west, you will find Lake Bracciano, followed by Lake Vico.
