Known among geologists as the Pennsylvania Salient, this unique curve in the bedrock of this swath of the Appalachian Mountains was formed by a barrier of dense volcanic rock that forced the mountains to fold around it. Makes for a stunning view as the mountains gradually shift from a vertical to horizontal orientation.
